Indicators can help identify trends, predict problems, assess options, set performance targets and evaluate an organization. Also, the paper presents a statistical overview of indicators analyzed from the viewpoint of European Union’ sustainable development goals and the sustainable transport indicator set, considering the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. There are described solutions to achieve sustainable maritime transportation, such as environmental management systems and differentiate port infrastructure charges based on environmental criteria.
